The Barcelona forward line in which Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez scored 137 goals last year is about to be reinforced by a new signing.

Celta Vigo’s Spain international striker Nolito is moving closer to a switch to the Nou Camp in a move that will give Barca coach Luis Enrique even more firepower as he begins his assault on the second half of the season on Sunday against Athletic Bilbao.

The Barca coach knows all about Nolito who was capped for the first time by Spain last season. He coached him in Barca’s B-team before the manager moved to Roma and the forward switched to Benfica.

When the two returned to Spain they were reunited at Celta Vigo and when Enrique moved back to Barcelona to manage the first team he asked then sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta to sign him last January.

The move did not happen then but it could happen now with Barca trying to establish a loan move until the end of the season with a clause that will oblige the club to buy him for £15million (€20m) at the end of the season.

The deal will be sweetened by Barca forward Sandro - who has interested Tottenham this month - moving in the opposite direction.

Both sides stepped up talks on Wednesday morning and are hopeful of a solution before deadline day closes.
