The girlfriend of a prominent Montreal Canadiens player has been arrested at a house party after the two got into an alleged domestic violence incident at the weekend.

Chanel Leszczynski, the 27-year-old girlfriend of Habs forward Alex Galchenyuk, 21, was taken into custody Sunday morning in Montreal.

Galchenyuk was hosting a party at his inner city apartment on Saturday after Montreal’s 3-1 loss on Friday night to Pittsburgh.

However things turned messy when Leszczynski arrived later and starting fighting with her boyfriend, according to Yahoo Sports.

Reports say the scene turned violent, with a fellow party goer then calling the police.

The call went through about 8am

'Ms. Leszczynski was arrested after being identified as the instigator of the fight,' Montreal police said in a statement.

However, Galchenyuk declined to press charges.

Procedure requires the police to forward the case to prosecutors for review, the statement said.

The authorities have not elaborated on what the fight was about, or the extent of the violence involved.

However, hockey blog Stanley 25 reported that Leszczynski 'snapped' at some point, which frightened people at the party.

'Galchenyuk did a house party with some guys and ‘girls',' a source told the site.

'His girlfriend showed up. She snapped real bad. People got scared and called the police.'

An official with the Canidens said neither Galchenyuk or other members of the team - Devente Smith-Pelly, general manager Marc Bergevin and coach Michel Therrien - would not speak to the media Tuesday, according to The Montreal Gazette.

Galchenyuk and Smith-Pelly were called into a meeting with Bergevin on Tuesday.
